Montenegro: Houses for refugees and displaced

The auxiliary projects of Help in Montenegro have the target, refugees and displaced persons and socially disadvantaged locals in the Montenegrin society integrate. This is achieved on the one hand through measures that directly benefit the target group come. For another, help through measures the willingness and capacity of the affected communities for the integration of refugees and displaced promote. An important criterion for the successful work in Montenegro is the close cooperation with local partners, government agencies, UNHCR and other international institutions.

One of the Help projects in Montenegro in 2011 was the establishment of ten prefabricated houses for Refugees 40 in Herceg Novi. The community is located at the entrance of the Kotor Bay, has around 42,000 inhabitants, of which about 20,000 live in the town of Novi Heceg. According to official figures, 1,251 refugees live in Herceg Novi from Bosnia and Croatia, and 280 displaced persons from Kosovo. Thus, Herceg Novi has one of the highest refugee quotas in the country. Many of the refugees and IDPs living in collective centers under very poor conditions.

In the establishment of ten prefabricated houses of help in 2011, the beneficiary families in the work involved. They were responsible for the excavation of the septic tanks and the water and electricity to their homes. This project was supported by encouraged the Foreign and is part of the German Assistance under the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe. Help the project was carried out in close coordination with the Refugees by the United Nations.
